| Transportation Advisory Committee |
April 11, 2008
Dear Parents & Guardians:
Each year your community grows and changes. The addition of each new road and new home brings with it new requests for expanded school bus service. Your school system does its best to be responsive to these requests as well as to provide the highest level of service that is fairly distributed to all students.
In an attempt to address the many requests while maintaining a balance throughout the system, your School Committee has been employing an Advisory Board to hear the requests, review the feasibility and consequences, and to work with the contractor to insure that the system remains in balance.
The Advisory Board is comprised of the following yearly appointed positions:
1 Parent from the East Side of Town
1 Parent from the West Side of Town
1 Parent from the Private/Parochial School(s)
2 School Committee Members
1 Town Safety Officer
The Transportation Contractor and the Business Administrator attend each meeting and provide input but they do not vote.
The Advisory Board meets regularly from the late summer and early fall and then only as needed throughout the rest of the school year. If you have ever thought of getting involved and have just a few hours spread out over the school year available, I invite your participation.
Please contact this office by Friday, May 16, 2008, if you would like to submit your name for inclusion. Representatives are selected by blind lottery.
Good luck and please feel free to contact me if you need additional information.
Sincerely,
David J. Hawkins
Superintendent of Schools
